Between the 1970s and 1980s, all seven (5)Ellis and (2)Avery children met their partners, got married, and started their own families.
In 1972, the Shawnigan property was passed down to Dick and Joan, along with their spouses, Shirley Ellis and Duke Avery. At the time, property could be transferred within families for just $100, before capital gains taxes were introduced a few years later under Prime Minister Pierre Elliott Trudeau.
- In 1971, Cathy Ellis married Shane Murphy. They settled in Vernon, BC, and had two children: Joel Murphy, born on March 2, 1977, and Shannon Murphy, born on January 27, 1980.
- That same year, Debbie Ellis married John Leier. Together, they operated a group home for teenagers in Whisky Creek for three years.
- David Ellis married Monica Kingsberry, and they had a son named Jeremy Ellis and a stepdaughter named Tanya.
- Barb Ellis married Doug Gardiner on October 1, 1977.
