John (Jack) Leitch Clay

April 26, 1893 – Jan 1951

Barrister in Victoria BC – Clay & Company

Jack Clay was a founding partner and barrister with the law firm Clay & McFarlane, serving from 1919 until his passing in 1951. Later established as Clay & Company, the firm built a respected reputation within the Victoria legal community and continued to operate under its evolving name until its eventual dissolution. Throughout his career, Jack was known for his dedication to the legal profession and his commitment to serving his clients and community.

Diagnosed with polio at a young age, Jack faced significant challenges early in life, but he never allowed his condition to define or limit him. His determination, perseverance, and strength of character were evident throughout both his personal and professional life, serving as an example of resilience and achievement.

Beyond his legal career, Jack and his wife, Laura, created an enduring family legacy. In 1947, they built the cedar shake cabin that would become a cherished gathering place for future generations. What began as a family retreat has grown into far more than a summer cabin — it has become a place where traditions are carried forward, stories are shared, and lifelong memories are created. Today, the cabin continues to serve as a shared summer vacation home enjoyed by the current families and their children, remaining an important symbol of family connection and togetherness.
